What Happened
- Court-Authorized Warrants: Federal judges in Maryland and Washington signed off on the searches, authorizing agents to enter both locations (WSJ).
 - Boxes Seized: Agents were seen carrying multiple boxes of material out of Bolton’s home and office (AP).
 - Bolton’s Whereabouts: Bolton was not home during the morning raid but later returned and waved at reporters outside his residence (Guardian).

The case stems from long-running disputes over Bolton’s 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened, which Trump alleged contained classified information. That inquiry was dropped in 2021 but has been revived under current FBI Director Kash Patel, who stated on X today: “Nobody is above the law” (NY Mag).
Why It Matters
The case stems from long-running disputes over Bolton’s 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened, which Trump alleged contained classified information. That inquiry was dropped in 2021 but has been revived under current FBI Director Kash Patel, who stated on X today: “Nobody is above the law” (NY Mag).
The Bigger Picture
Bolton, a vocal Trump critic since being fired in 2019, has repeatedly condemned the former president’s foreign policy. Trump, in turn, has called Bolton “hawkish” and accused him of exploiting sensitive information for profit. Analysts note that Bolton was also named in Patel’s 2023 book Government Gangsters, which targeted figures accused of undermining Trump’s agenda (Guardian).
No charges have yet been filed, and the outcome of today’s search remains uncertain.
